EXIT REALTY MUSIC CITY FEATURES:
BUSY ROOKIES Cindy Brooks and Tanya Adams
Working with associates at EXIT Realty Music City is more than a job it is a wonderful & joyous task. I have met so many awesome individuals with genuine, giving hearts and it matters to work with people like this because I know they are really looking out for the real best interest of their clients and people they are working with. Sadly I have seen when this is not the case working in other Real Estate offices and watching other associates close deals with their clients with the ‘car salesmen approach’ lets get the deal closed no matter what. Proudly I can say that is not the case with any of the EXIT Realty Music City associates!
I had the opportunity to sit down with two busy women, who are less than 6 months licensed Real Estate associates. Rookie’s to be exacted and asked some personal questions about their Real Estate drive and here’s what they had to say.
Cindy Brooks, REALTOR®
How long have you been a Real Estate Professional?
“I have been involved with Real Estate for most of my life. I come from a family of developers, builders and contractors. My grandfather was well known in the Donelson, Hermitage and Mt. Juliet area for his custom cabinets. My parents developed and built 2 major sub-divisions in Mt. Juliet; along with building 2 of our homes. They also had their own Real Estate company. So I was always around agents, brokers and builders. From the age of 12 I would go to our building sites after school and watch the framers, plumbers and brick layers. I never grew tired of watching boards go together and make a home in a very short period of time. Once the houses were finished, my parents would pay me to do the detailed cleanup so the house would be ready to put on the market. Sometimes they would let me sit in during the open houses (which were very different back then), and I would listen to all the questions the clients would ask and then come up with what I thought the answer should be; after a few years of doing this, I could usually answer the questions correctly without even having to think about it. I guess it just became second nature.”
What made you decide to get your Real Estate License?
“I think I fought getting my license for so long due to most of my family having a license including my husband and daughter. I didn’t want to feel like I was in competition with them; not to mention I was scared to death of taking the test. But after much persuasion from a wonderful friend of 25+ years, (Cindy Holmes) and my husband Jake, I decided it was time to do it, and I’m glad I did.”
What made you decide to join Exit Realty Music City?
“Two words…..CINDY HOLMES”
You are considered a rookie being licensed in the Real Estate industry less that a year and you have 6 listings, over $1 million in inventory. Tell us your Real Estate secrets.
“PURE LUCK- I truly don’t have any secrets. I just try to be as honest and upfront with the seller as I can. I do my homework on their property, I ask a lot of questions from other agents (Thank you Cindy). When I go out to do a listing presentation, I don’t get in a hurry with the sellers, I listen to every memory they want to tell me about while they lived in the home, and I always find something I like about them and their house; and, I never make promises to them that I can’t keep. Having a supportive husband helps a lot, Jake helps me blog, set-up websites and constantly tells me I can do it.”
What is your schedule on a daily basis?
“Up at 6:00am, TURN ON THE COFFEE, check email, prepare breakfast for Jake (which usually consists of Cheerios and vitamins), get ready, check on our job sites (we own a Renovation Business), deliver materials if needed, usually check in with my kids and then fly by the seat of my pants on what might be in store for the rest of the day.”
Explain one of the community organizations you are involved with and how did you become involved?
“CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for abused and neglected children is my main volunteer work. I became involved after one of my daughters told me about it. I honestly thought it would be “a once a month deal” and soon found out it would become a second job. After 6 weeks of intense training and being sworn in by the Juvenile judge of Davidson Co, I received my first case that day. It has been a great learning experience and has also taught me to not be so judgmental of people. I am currently on my 4th case with each case lasting about one year. The circumstances are usually very sad and I have become very attached to the children, most of them I continue to stay in touch with even after their case is settled. The main thing I have learned from doing this is that a lot of parents have no idea how to be a parent and how much time and energy it takes. With most of these cases, I have to stay in contact with the parents, extended family members, foster families, attorneys, teachers and the doctors of these children. I am usually in court at least 3 times a month and do home visits weekly. After having said all of that, being a CASA is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and I highly recommend it to anyone who cares about our future generation’s welfare."
I have met two of your energetic grandchildren and seen photos of your other grandchildren. How do you keep such a schedule; list properties, Real Estate education, office meetings plus help with grandchildren and so forth?
LOTS OF COFFEE:)
“Actually I follow a long line of strong women, and each one of them had the same motto: ‘An idle mind is a dead mind’. My great grandmother was a contractor and took care of her children, husband, family and home without any extra help. My grandmother worked full time, took care of her children, and was very involved with charities.
My mother did the same, so as I see it I have big shoes to fill. My grandkids are the most precious part of my life. All 16 of them have different personalities and interest so there is never a dull moment. It’s great to have so many because I stay active and up to date on the latest music, clothes and happenings. I’m not a big believer in “My Time” I would much rather have family time, work time and play time.”
Tell me three Real Estate goals before the end of 2010
“Sell all of my current listings, Continue to get more listings, Always remember to treat my clients, co-workers, Admin and Broker the way I want to be treated. In closing, I truly want to make a nice living selling Real Estate, but having a good reputation is more important to me than any amount of money; because after you’re gone the money doesn’t matter, but your reputation can affect your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.”
