Providence Hospitals acquired Thoracic and Cardiovascular Associates of South Carolina, a Columbia heart surgery practice. Four physicians will join Providence including Drs. William Baker Allen, E. McIver Leppard, John Sutton III and Robert Zurcher.

SCE&G will pay the federal government $3.8 million to reimburse federal agencies for their costs associated with the environmental clean-up of a former manufactured gas factory operated on the Charleston waterfront from the early 1900s through the 1950s, said company spokesman Robert Yanity.

First Citizens named Michael Delaney as senior vice president and commercial area executive for the bank’s Orangeburg market. He is now responsible for overseeing day-to-day commercial operations and will be based at First Citizens’ Columbia Road office.

The Hilton Columbia Center is the only hotel in Columbia to carry the rating, and one of only about 25 hotels in South Carolina. Four Diamond lodging is considered upscale in all areas and offers extensive amenities and a high degree of hospitality.

Eight defendants will be entering the federal Pretrial Diversion Program. As a part of this program, the defendants have agreed to pay the money they received for cashing the checks back to DSS. They are also required to perform 100 hours of community service.

Madeira Therapeutics and EnviroMix, both technology-based startup companies located in the Charleston area, received the investment for their promising technology and business model.

Sawgrass Technologies Inc. is looking to hire a sales center agent to join its sales team. The position requires computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; experience in the use of contact management and order processing software; and strong telephone voice and verbal communication skills. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. A college degree and some sales experience are preferred. Learn more or apply here.
