Sheriff, EMS Hold Fire-Rescue Boat Training – The Lexington Country Sheriff’s Department Dive Team and Lexington County Emergency Medical Services conducted training June 28 on Lake Murray near Bundrick Island in order to enhance their ability to safely remove injured persons from the lake and transport them on fire-rescue boats to seek medical treatment. The training included removing dummies from the lake, placing them on back boards and baskets and then hauling the boards and baskets onto fire-rescue boats that are operated by the Sheriff’s Department Lake Murray Marine Patrol. The fire-rescue boats are equipped with doors that can be lowered on the side of the boat in order to minimize the amount of lifting that must be done to load an injured person onto the boat. Emergency Medical Services personnel and Dive Team members regularly are assigned to work on fire-rescue boats on Lake Murray on weekends and holidays in the summer.
Lexington County Sheriff Holds Blood Drive - In one week, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department will conduct a blood drive in cooperation with the South Carolina chapter of the American Red Cross. It will be held from 8 am to 5 pm July 26 in the Squad Room at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex. Since 2006, blood drives that the Sheriff's Department conducted resulted in the donation of a total of 1,088 units of blood to the American Red Cross.
