South Congaree, SC - Lexington County Real Estate 

    The Lexington County, SC Town of South Congaree offers small town rural living, along with one of South Carolina's best-kept secrets: a real, live, professional rodeo that ranks in the overall rodeo circuit scores of the participants right along with the Colorado, Texas, and all those other "cowboy state" events.

      The Congaree Western Weekend and Festival was established in 1990 and usually takes place in April drawing a crowd of about 30,000 people. A regular event featured in the "American Cowboy" magazine rodeo circuit schedule, the Congaree Western Weekend offers professional bronco and bull riding, parades, car shows, live music, carnival rides, and a BBQ cookoff. In 2008, the event also included an intertribal Native American Gathering that drew people from all over South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.  If you are a fellow "couch cowboy" (or cowgirl) and enjoy watching the big rodeos on TV, well I'm here to tell ya, pilgrim, you will see a lot of those same competitors climbing the rodeo ranks right here in South Congaree, SC.

    In spite of the national cowboy circuit recognition, South Congaree maintains that great small town friendly atmosphere. Established in 1957, South Congaree rests quietly on Highwy 302 (Airport Boulevard). Its neighboring communities include Cayce, West Columbia, Pine Ridge, Gaston, and Pelion. South Congaree's Main Street offers local businesses, restaurants, a Lexington County Branch Library, a pharmacy, and everyone's favorite meat market.

   South Congaree residents enjoy the pleasures of small town and rural living, while being only a few minutes from Interstates 26 and 77, downtown Columbia, the newly located South Carolina State Farmer's Market, the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, and several schools, colleges, and universities. Just five minutes away on Fish Hatchery Road in Pine Ridge is the Charwood Country Club and Golf Course, and Hidden Valley Country Club and Golf Course is 10 minutes away in the other direction on that same road.

    Homes are very affordable in South Congaree where mean prices range from low to mid $100's, and the average sale price is $131,000. Some newly developed neighborhoods, such as Ridge Pointe on nearby Fish Hatchery Road and Congaree Downs on Ramblin Road, offer more.
